Learning Objectives
Upon completing this training course, you will be able to:
- Describe the fundamental concepts and principles of an AI management system as defined by ISO/IEC 42001
- Analyze the ISO/IEC 42001 requirements for AI management systems from an auditor’s perspective
- Assess the conformity of an AI management system to ISO/IEC 42001, applying core audit concepts and principles
- Plan, execute, and close ISO/IEC 42001 compliance audits in line with ISO/IEC 17021-1 requirements, ISO 19011 guidelines, and industry best practices
- Oversee and manage ISO/IEC 42001 audit programs

Day 1: Introduction to artificial intelligence management systems and ISO/IEC 42001
Day 2: Audit principles, along with the preparation and initiation of audits

Examination
The “PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor” exam satisfies the requirements of the PECB Examination and Certification Program (ECP). It encompasses the following competency domains:
Domain 1: Core principles and concepts of AI management systems
Domain 2: Requirements for AI management systems
Domain 3: Fundamental audit concepts and principles
Domain 4: Preparation for an ISO/IEC 42001 audit
Domain 5: Execution of an ISO/IEC 42001 audit
Domain 6: Closure of an ISO/IEC 42001 audit
Domain 7: Management of an ISO/IEC 42001 audit program

Certification
PECB ISO/IEC 42001 Certification Path and Requirements
After successfully passing the exam, you may apply for one of four professional credentials based on your experience level. All credentials require passing the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or an approved equivalent) and signing the PECB Code of Ethics.
1. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Provisional Auditor
Suitable for newcomers who have acquired theoretical knowledge but lack practical auditing or industry experience.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

2. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Auditor
Intended for professionals with foundational experience in artificial intelligence management and auditing.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Two years total, including at least one year of specific work experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Management System Audit Experience: A minimum of 200 hours of qualifying audit activities

Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics
3. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor
The standard credential for experienced professionals qualified to plan, lead, and manage AI management system audit teams.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Five years total, including at least two years of specific work experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Management System Audit Experience: A minimum of 300 hours of qualifying audit activities

Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics
4. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Senior Lead Auditor
The highest level of certification for expert practitioners with extensive, long-term leadership experience in auditing AI frameworks.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Ten years total, including at least seven years of specific work experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Management System Audit Experience: A minimum of 1,000 hours of qualifying audit activities

Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics
Note on Qualifying Audit Activities: To be recognized by PECB, your audit hours must adhere to best practices and include activities such as audit planning, managing audit programs, drafting audit or nonconformity reports, conducting on-site audits, and leading audit teams.
General
- Certification and examination fees are included in the training course price.
- Participants will receive training materials containing over 450 pages of explanatory content, examples, best practices, exercises, and quizzes.
- A completion certificate valued at 31 CPD (Continuing Professional Development) credits will be issued to participants who attend the training course.
- If a candidate fails the exam, they may retake it within 12 months of the initial attempt at no additional cost.
Requirements
To participate in this training, candidates must possess a solid foundational understanding of ISO/IEC 42001, as well as core AI principles and concepts.
