- Understand the auditor’s responsibilities in planning, leading, and following up on management system audits as per ISO 19011
- Develop the skills to lead an audit and manage the audit team
- Learn to interpret ISO 9001 requirements within the specific context of a QMS audit

PECB ISO 9001 Certification Path and Requirements
After successfully passing the examination, you may apply for one of four professional credentials based on your level of experience. All designations require passing the PECB Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Exam (or an approved equivalent) and agreeing to the PECB Code of Ethics.
1. Certified ISO 9001 Provisional Auditor
Suited for those new to the field who have a strong theoretical foundation in quality management but lack practical field experience.

2. Certified ISO 9001 Auditor
Intended for professionals with basic experience in quality management and audit environments.

Professional Experience: Two years of total experience, including at least one year specifically in Quality Management

Audit/Project Experience: At least 200 hours of relevant project and audit activities

3. Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor
The standard credential for seasoned professionals who are fully qualified to plan, execute, and lead QMS audit teams.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Five years of total experience, including at least two years specifically in Quality Management

Audit/Project Experience: At least 300 hours of relevant project and audit activities

4. Certified ISO 9001 Senior Lead Auditor
The highest credential, designed for expert practitioners with extensive, long-term leadership experience in managing complex QMS audits.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Ten years of total experience, including at least seven years specifically in Quality Management

Audit/Project Experience: At least 1,000 hours of relevant project and audit activities

Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics
Note on Qualifying Audit Activities: To satisfy PECB requirements, recorded hours must include active participation in the assessment process. This includes planning audits, managing audit programs, reviewing documentation, performing on-site audits, drafting nonconformity or final reports, and leading audit teams.
